The Sony Xperia ZR: Why did it not sell as much?

After releasing its flagship Smartphone Sony Xperia Z during this year, Sony has launched one more device in its Xperia series called Xperia ZR. It is powered with dust resistant and water proof capabilities very similar to Xperia Z. Considering the fact that it is loaded with plethora of features in compact form, we can call it as ‘Xperia Z Mini’.

The smartphone features HD reality LCD display of 4.6 inch with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. It is loaded with new advanced technology called OptiContrast panel. This technology helps in reducing the unnecessary cavity between touch sensor and screen by incorporating sensor on the main panel. The final result is a highly slim and attractive display with great touch feedback. Similar to other Xperia phones, Xperia ZR will be equipped with Bravia display.

In terms of technical specification, Xperia ZR houses a quad-core processor of Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 powered with 1.5GHz. Xperia ZR has got RAM of 2GB as Sony clearly doesn’t want to compromise with the performance of this amazing device. The 8GB internal memory of the device can be expanded to 32GB with the help of microSD card slot. On virtue of its exhaustive specification, it looks like Xperia ZR is a winner among all the smartphones available in market in mid segment category.

Though some of the features match with those offered by flagship model of other Smartphone companies, there are many unique things to explore in Sony Xperia ZR. Its rear camera of 13 Megapixel comes with Exmor RS. Besides this, it is also houses auto focus and digital zoom features. On the other hand, the front camera is equipped with VGA resolution, which is not at all surprise for users as Sony’s most of the devices come with the same camera resolution. The additional thing you can discover in Xperia ZR is the dedicated button for camera shutter which is placed just near to camera, making it easier to access. Other features that come with its exclusive camera include noise reduction, HDR mode and continuous shooting of 15 frames per second without any limitations on images and shooting underwater images.

Apart from its high end camera, Xperia ZR has got something more to grab the attention of the users. As Xperia Z was water proof and you could literally wash it with water very similar to utensils, Sony goes one step ahead with its Xperia ZR. You can take images and record videos underwater with this extraordinary device. This will be most selling feature of Xperia ZR as it can be submerged into water up to 1.5 meter for around 30 minutes. The waterproof capabilities of this device are integrated with dedicated camera key which lets user to shoot Full HD videos thereby getting one of the quality visuals.The smartphone also features some common network connectivity options such as EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB port, GPRS, NFC etc. The stamina mode available in this Smartphone lets you to get battery back-up for a very long span of time.

Although it does sound like a great offering, the ZR did not actually manage to sell all that well following its launch and that makes us wonder what Sony might have done wrong. With the manufacturer now focusing on the mid-tier segment aggressively, we only have to wait and see if things turn around.
