Atrix 4G users, it’s been a month since we showed you the test build of Android 2.3.4. If you’ve given up on the futility of hitting “system update,” I’m going to ask you to have faith and try it one more time. Your Gingerbread is finally fully baked.
You can read the full release notes here if you want to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. While there are quite a few nice new features in the update, I think the highlight is the one Motorola chooses not to mention. The option to install from “Unknown sources.” Among other things, this brings the option to use the Amazon App Store (even if it is just for the free app of the day).
If you’re on a WiFi connection, just pull the standard “Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Update” trick that we’re all so fond of. Then download and install the update directly from your phone. If that isn’t working for you, Motorola has you covered. Hit the source link below (or right here) and follow Motorola’s simple instructions on performing the update via your computer. You can download and drop the install file on your SD card. There’s also a fully automated option for PC owners. If you have any problems, just give a shout in comments. We’ll try to help you out.
Let us know how the update goes for you. And be sure to tell us your favorite new feature after you’ve taken Gingerbread for a spin.
